I chose to paint this beautiful bird because I am fascinated by the colors of its beak in contrast with its plumage. I portrayed him posing as if he were looking at the viewer with a curious look. It's made with oil colors on a canvas 100 cm x 100 cm.
All my paintings are entirely handmade and are unique and original pieces.
My artworks, of hyperrealistic and with a photographic style, have got as main subjects animals, mostly exotic ones such as elephants, rhinoceros, tiger, giraffes or leopards, or typical of the Sardinian territory. I manage to highlight the details, meticulously cared for, and to focus attention on the subject, which is the only character of the work: the background, in fact, is absent, it is mostly monochrome and it emphasizes the focus on the animal, abstracting and extracting it from a real space.
My style is defined as pop - hyperrealism because the subjects are painted following a detailed technique, but their position in an unreal space gives the artworks features that are more typical of pop art, so hyperrealism and a graphic style melt. I use different techniques according to the subject and the effects I want to obtein.

Some information about the toucan
The toco toucan is the largest of the 11 species of toucans. It measures 53-60 centimeters, 19 of which belong to the beak; the weight is around 550 grams. The plumage is a beautiful bright black which further highlights the orange beak. On its tip there is an oval black spot. The throat is white. When it is in flight the red coverts of the tail and the white rump are noticed. Around the eyes, purple or blue, there is an area of bare skin of yellow-orange color. The beak, although apparently very heavy, is actually sprinkled with air pockets that make it very light. It has a long tongue worn on the sides. The legs are gray, short but very robust, with two fingers facing forward and two backwards to facilitate support on the branches. The toucan is notoriously playful. Among his favorite games, beak fights are the most frequent; the contenders love to push each other until one of them gives in. Another peculiarity of these Piciforms is the strange way of resting: six people also sleep inside the hollow of a tree; each rests its beak on its back, turning the head to the side, and brings the tail close to the head, thus becoming small balls. Mainly frugivorous, the toucan also feeds on insects, small birds, eggs and reptiles, crabs, small fish found in streams and even mice. This toucan lives in central-eastern South America. It is present in Guyana, Suriname, French Guayana, Brazil, eastern Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay and northern Argentina. It frequents the woods, the gallery forests, the wooded areas of the savannah, the open countryside and the small patches of shrubs; avoid the dense rainforest, preferring the more open areas. It is also found at waterways and near human settlements.
