TamaraTamara de Lempicka, (1898 - 1980) is the most typical interpreter of Art Déco in painting.

Tamara Rosalia Gurwik-Gorsk was born in Warsaw, Poland, as a Polish mother and a Jewish father. In 1907 she accompanied the maternal grandmother on a trip to Italy and visited the art cities: here she discovers his passion for art.

In 1914, she moved to St. Petersburg and knows the young lawyer Tadeusz Lempicki and falls in love with her. They get married in 1916 and live in an early period in St. Petersburg. During the Russian Revolution of 1918, her husband is arrested by the Bolsheviks: thanks to Tamara's intervention and her knowledge, her husband is released.

They decide to move to Paris: here Tamara begins to paint. She creates a sophisticated and original pictorial style, unique and unmistakable.

In 1922 she makes his first exhibition in the Salon d'Automne and soon became famous with the name of Tamara de Lempicka.

His paintings portray the life and the ways of his time fascinatingly: she realizes portraits of women of high society.

His nude paintings allude to bisexual love: Tamara was bisexual declared. 

In 1928 she divorced her husband and moved to America. Here she knows Baron Kuffner, who married in 1933. In America she continues his exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

After the death of his second husband, Tamara moved to Houston, Texas.

In 1969 he returned to Paris.

In 1978, Tamara De Lempicka moved to Mexico, Cuernavaca, where she died on March 18, 1980, and her ashes are dispersed on the Popocatepetl volcano.
