When I paint I always listen to music and I am always looking for particular songs that stimulate me. When I listened to the Maneskin at the X-Factor auditions, I was immediately struck by a disruptive energy, a charge and a new force.
I painted for days with their music, dragged by those fresh and young sounds, which skilfully mix rock, soul, reggae, indie, pop.
And so, after attending episode after episode to their performances, was born this portrait of the singer Damiano David, in which I tried to pay tribute to this boy of only 18 years, who with his singular presence and his charisma has overwhelmed a few days thousands of people.
When he gets on the stage it is impossible to get distracted, he is overwhelmed by his brazen and arrogant presence, by his voice coming straight to the stomach, like a fist, from his sensual and diabolical gaze, which seems to lead straight to hell.
In this portrait, I have emphasized his damned and magnetic expression, which makes him so damn attractive.
